Impress your friends this Halloween with these simple, tasty, vegan, and, above all, terrifying snacks.

Falafel ‘Eyeballs’

Transform ready-made falafel (or make your own) into a spooky snack by topping the balls with tomato sauce and sliced green olives to resemble bloody eyes.

Pepper Zombie Heads

Slice the tops off your peppers and remove the seeds and white flesh from the inside. Then use a sharp knife to carve a face into the side of each pepper. Toss cooked spaghetti with a few spoonfuls of dairy-free pesto and put the pasta inside the peppers. For an extra-creepy effect, pull a few strands out through the “eyes” and “mouths”.

Peanut Butter ‘Fingers’

To make these sinister morsels, spread peanut butter over pieces of sliced white bread , then roll up into “fingers”. Stick a whole almond on one end using a small amount of peanut butter and spoon some strawberry jam over the other end. Use a sharp knife to make three incisions in the middle.

Ferocious Apple ‘Teeth’

Cut apples into quarters, then remove the middle section of each quarter to create a “mouth”. Spread some strawberry jam along the inside, then make the “teeth” by sticking a few slivered almonds in each side.

Chewy Green Ghoulies

Here’s the recipe for these spine-chilling sweet treats:

1/2 cup white icing
1/4 cup black icing
2 cups vegan marshmallows
1 tsp. vanilla essence
2 Tbsp. maple syrup
1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. coconut oil
4 drops green food-colouring gel
6 cups brown-rice cereal
1/2 cup vegan dark chocolate

  • Make the “eyeballs” first. Dot circles of the white icing onto baking paper and leave to set. Then add dots of the black icing to the middle of each.
  • To make the “heads”, melt the marshmallows, vanilla essence, maple syrup, and 1 tablespoonful of the coconut oil in a saucepan. Remove from the heat and gradually add in the green food colouring. Stir in the brown-rice cereal and roll into balls.
  • Push the eyes into place on the ghoulies’ faces. Melt dark chocolate and remaining coconut oil then paint “mouths” on using a cocktail stick.
