London – OutKast’s Andre 3000 and Alicia Silverstone have been voted the “World’s Sexiest Vegetarians” in PETA’s fourth annual online poll. Thousands of votes were cast in the poll on PETA.org, and Andre and Alicia narrowly edged out a host of other vegetarian “Valentinos” and “Venuses”, including Pamela Anderson, Kim Basinger, Morrissey, Ian McKellan, and previous winners Tobey Maguire, Josh Hartnett, Natalie Portman and Shania Twain.
Silverstone, who shot to fame on the big screen in Clueless and recently starred in the critically acclaimed TV hit Miss Match, has said, “Once I became vegan, my nails were stronger, my skin was glowing, I lost a lot of weight. Whoooaa! Is this like great karma or what?” She goes on to say, “Going vegan is the single best thing I’ve done in my life. I am so much happier and more confident. I made a decision based on my moral beliefs.”
OutKast and Andre 3000 have taken the music world by storm, landing a Grammy for Best Rap Album and multiple number-one hits on the Billboard charts. Andre was recently asked how he would spend his last day on Earth, and he replied, “I’d probably go for a great meal – some broccoli probably, because I’m a vegetarian.”
Celebrities cite many reasons for forgoing flesh foods, from avoiding the cruelty to animals that is inherent in meat production to improving their health and energy levels to helping the environment by not contributing to pig- and chicken-farm pollution.
More than 12,000 people voted in PETA’s annual “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian” poll. The complete list of the more than 180 vegetarian celebs who were in the running in this year’s poll is available on PETA Europe’s Web site PETA.org.uk.
