London – Calling all sexy vegans: PETA is now accepting entries for its UK and Ireland’s Hottest Vegan Competition 2018. Modelled, in part, after the group’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities contest – which has featured Leona Lewis, John Bishop, Thandie Newton, David Haye, and many others – the annual competition seeks to recognise the gorgeous men and women who are proving that there’s nothing more attractive than compassion.

Each winner – one man and one woman – will win a trip for two on the luxury five-night Christmas Markets cruise on Germany and Switzerland’s Rhine and Moselle rivers, courtesy of Vegan Travel.

“The competition is a celebration of people who are doing their part to end violence against animals and substantially reduce their carbon footprint while enjoying all the benefits of a healthier body,” says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “It’s a fun way to promote a compassionate vegan lifestyle.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that each person who goes vegan spares 100 animals every year daily suffering and a terrifying death in the meat, egg, and dairy industries. While vegans have big hearts, studies show that they have healthier ones, too: in addition to slashing their risk of developing heart disease, they are less prone to suffering from cancer, diabetes, and obesity and are, on average, fitter and trimmer than meat-eaters.

Entrants must be at least 18 years of age. The entry round ends on 23 July 2018. By 30 July, PETA will announce the top finalists – to be determined by a PETA panel – and voting will open to the public to help the group determine whom it should select as the winners. The winners will be chosen based on several factors, including vote count, and will be announced by 13 August. See the full contest details here.

Top honours last year went to East Sussex power couple Casey Rider, a charity worker, and Mark Goodwin, a fitness instructor, who are both available for interviews. You can also find out more about their Hottest Vegan journey in PETA’s new video spot, which can be viewed here.
