‘BRUISED’ AND ‘BLOODIED’ BATH MODEL PROTESTS WOOL INDUSTRY CRUELTY

Nearly Nude PETA Supporter Reveals Plight of Sheep Who Are Kicked, Punched, and Killed for Wool

Bath Passers-by in Birmingham, Leeds, and Liverpool got quite an eyeful this week as Bath local Hannah Bailey, 23, joined two other nearly nude PETA models to highlight the cruelty inherent in the wool industry. Bailey, who was body-painted to look bruised and bloodied, covered her breasts with a “dead lamb”. Another model took to the streets holding a sign that read, “Sheep Kicked and Beaten for Wool”, and the third held a placard that read, “The Naked Truth: Wool Hurts”.

Photos are available here, here, and here.

“I wanted to spread the message that sheep are not coats, jumpers, or scarves”, says Bailey. “When every single PETA exposé of the wool industry has revealed petrified sheep with bloody wounds and broken limbs, there’s simply no excuse to wear wool – especially when there are so many innovative vegan fabrics to choose from.”

PETA’s international affiliates (whose shared motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”) have released five exposés, recorded at 37 facilities on three continents, which reveal that sheep are mutilated, abused, and skinned alive – even for so-called “responsibly sourced” wool on so-called “sustainable” farms. Shearers are often paid by volume, not by the hour, encouraging fast, violent work, and many sheep are left with gaping wounds that workers then stitch closed without any painkillers.

Bailey is available for interviews. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk.
