Exeter Refuse Collectors Nab PETA Award for Rescuing Deer

Distressed Deer Was Spotted Trapped Upside Down Behind Bottle Bank

Exeter – In recognition of their quick thinking in saving a deer who was stuck upside down behind a bottle bank, Exeter City Council waste management workers Jason Blackmore and Neil Baker have received a framed Hero to Animals Award from PETA.

Photos are available here and here.

According to reports, the two front-line workers jumped into action after being alerted to the animal’s plight by a member of the public. Once lifted out of the tight space, the seemingly unharmed deer ran off to safety.

“The kind actions of Jason Blackmore and Neil Baker should inspire others throughout the community and beyond to come to the aid of animals in need,” says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “Exeter is fortunate to have council workers who are ready to protect and serve both residents and the wildlife who call the area home.”
