Mena Suvari Is a Glowing Vegan Mum-to-Be in New PETA US Ad

London – Wearing nothing but an oversized avocado covering her baby bump, American Beauty actor Mena Suvari stars in a new PETA US campaign celebrating the benefits of a healthy vegan pregnancy.

For Suvari, who has been vegan since 2017, a plant-powered pregnancy was the obvious choice.

“With everything I know about the cruelty of the meat industry and the health benefits of going vegan, I knew I wanted to raise my son to be a kind, loving, and empathetic person, and I think that can start with how we eat as a family,” she says.

Each person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals every year and dramatically reduces their risk of suffering from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity. A healthy vegan diet of leafy green vegetables, nuts, seeds, lentils, beans, whole grains, and linseed provides an excellent source of iron, folate, omega-3 fatty acids, and other nutrients that expecting parents need to thrive – without any saturated animal fat or cholesterol.

Suvari is part of a long list of celebrities who have teamed up with PETA US and its international affiliates – including Daniella Monet, Emily Deschanel, and Suvari’s American Woman co-star Alicia Silverstone – to highlight the benefits of a healthy vegan pregnancy.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow the group on FacebookTwitter, or Instagram.
