NEWCASTLE MAN IS FINALIST IN PETA’S ‘HOTTEST VEGAN’ COMPETITION

Winners Will Receive Stay at Luxury Boutique Hotel in London

Newcastle – What does Anthony Welsh, a Newcastle local, have in common with Joaquin Phoenix, Jared Leto and David Haye? They are all sizzling, sexy vegans! Anthony Welsh, 26, beat out other entrants to become one of four male finalists in PETA’s Hottest Vegan Competition 2016.

Anthony Welsh is a technician, firefighter and model – and he also runs a vegan Instagram account. He went vegan five years ago after some research online made him aware of the cruelty involved in eating and wearing animals. “I had a sudden awakening to how bizarre it was that humans … showed affection to household pets but consumed other animals”, he says. “I realised I could not put my money into such a business that exploits, tortures and kills innocent, beautiful beings.” Anthony plays drums and loves to travel. In addition to promoting vegan living on social media, he also wears apparel with a vegan message to the gym, to show how fit and healthy a plant-based diet can be.

“Vegans are, on average, slimmer and healthier and have more energy than their meat-eating peers – plus, there’s nothing hotter than compassion”, says PETA Director Mimi Bekhechi. “All the finalists are already winners because they eat delicious, healthy foods that don’t harm a hair, feather or fin on an animal’s body.”

You can vote for your favourite contestants – one man and one woman – to let PETA know whom you think it should select as the winners. Two winners (one male and one female) will each receive a one-night stay for two at the luxury boutique hotel La Suite West in London, which will include a vegan breakfast as well as a dinner prepared by vegan Head Chef Nik Heartland at its animal-free restaurant, RAW.

Voting on the finalists to help PETA determine the winners will run until 17 June. Winners will be chosen by PETA based on several factors, including vote count, and will be announced on 21 June. See the full contest details here.
