OXFORD STUDENT IS A FINALIST IN ‘GREAT VEGAN BAKE-OFF’ CONTEST
Voting Begins to Help PETA Decide Who It Should Crown the Best Cruelty-Free Baker
Oxford – A student from Oxford is a finalist in PETA’s sixth annual contest to find the best vegan baker in the UK. After much consideration – and serious cravings for delectable baked goods – PETA has selected Robyn Trafford, whose indulgent Eton mess–inspired cake wowed the judges, as one of the seven finalists. Now, the public will help PETA decide who it should select to be crowned the 2018 Great Vegan Bake-Off champion.

Last year’s winner, Lorna Songhurst, the founder of Totally Nuts by Blue-Milk catering company in Kent, took top honours for her indulgent raw chocolate-orange layer cake topped with fluffy chocolate mousse.
“With so many gorgeous dairy-free desserts on offer, it was difficult to narrow down the field to just seven finalists,” says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “All the finalists in PETA’s Great Vegan Bake-Off have shown how creative and delicious cruelty-free baking can be.”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way” – notes that vegan baking is kind to mother cows, who are forcibly impregnated and then separated from their newborns on dairy farms, and to chickens, who are kept in tiny wire cages on filthy egg farms. Going vegan is also a great way to reduce our risk of suffering from heart disease, strokes, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.
Voting is open to the public until 24 October. PETA will choose the winner based on several factors, including vote count, and will announce the results by 27 October.
