OXFORDSHIRE’S THE FLOWING SPRING RANKS AMONG THE TOP 10 VEGAN-FRIENDLY UK PUBS

PETA Recognises Playhatch Spot Known for Its Delicious, Cruelty-Free Fare

Playhatch, Oxfordshire – Long gone are the days when a vegan meal at one of the UK’s many watering holes meant a handful of peanuts or a plate of chips. Vegan eating has thoroughly infiltrated the mainstream, and more and more British pubs are meeting the growing demand for healthy, humane meat-free fare. That’s why PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – has searched the UK high and low for the top 10 pubs with the best selection of high-quality vegan dishes, and Oxfordshire’s The Flowing Spring has made the list.

Winners were chosen based on a number of criteria, including their reputation and the selection and quality of vegan items on their menu. The Flowing Spring ranked among the best, offering its patrons many mouth-watering options such as the veggie filled, cottage pie, the Spicy Hippy Burger – made with chickpeas, squash and crunchy sunflower seeds – and a range of vegan ice creams.

“We’re raising our glasses to The Flowing Spring for offering its patrons wonderful vegan dishes to nosh on while they wet their whistles”, says PETA Associate Director Elisa Allen. “PETA encourages all British eateries to look to this pub for inspiration and feed Britons’ growing hunger for food that’s as satisfying and delicious as it is healthy and humane.”

In addition to sparing approximately 100 animals a year the horrors of the abattoir, vegans and vegetarians are less likely to suffer from cancer, obesity and diabetes than meat-eaters are. They also have a lower carbon footprint. These are just some of the reasons why millions of British people (including 20 per cent of 16- to 24-year-olds, according to the research group Mintel) have chosen to ditch animal-derived foods.

Other pubs on PETA’s list are located in Suffolk, Glasgow, Birmingham and elsewhere across the UK. Each one will receive a framed certificate and be featured on PETA’s website.
