PETA Gives Away Free Vegan Sausages in Call to Fight Climate Change With Diet Change

London – Today, as scorching temperatures grip the UK, a group of PETA supporters – one of them body-painted as planet Earth – hit Trafalgar Square with free vegan sausages for passers-by, alongside a banner proclaiming, “Fight Climate Change With Diet Change: Go Vegan.”

Photos are available here, here, here, and here.

“The meat industry isn’t just killing animals – it’s guzzling up our natural resources, spewing out contaminants, and heating up the Earth,” says PETA Director of International Programmes Mimi Bekhechi. “These heatwaves are a crisis, not cause for celebration, and PETA is calling on everyone to save our scorching planet by going vegan today.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that the meat industry is a major contributor to pollution, land degradation, water shortages, and habitat destruction and that the United Nations has concluded that a global shift towards vegan eating is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change. It’s estimated that the amount of beef, lamb, and pork consumed in the UK needs to be reduced by 90% in order to meet our Paris Agreement carbon-emission targets. As well as destroying the planet, the meat, egg, and dairy industries also sentence billions of sensitive animals to miserable lives and terrifying deaths.

PETA – which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – offers a free vegan starter kit, available here. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk.
