Edinburgh, Scotland – To celebrate the start of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, award-winning Scottish actor Alan Cumming stars on a giant eye-catching billboard urging everyone to choose the vegan option when shopping or eating out. With a strategically placed head of romaine lettuce doing little to cover his naughty bits, the PETA US honorary director encourages festival-goers to join him in going vegan.

“If someone is questioning being vegan, I would say to them, ‘Don’t be ridiculous. Just do it. It’s so easy!’” says Cumming, who went vegan in 2012, in an exclusive behind-the-scenes video. “We’re not living in the dark ages!”

Images can also be found here. The billboard can be found at 10 Croall Place, EH7 4LT.

Cumming previously handed out free vegan ice cream at the Edinburgh Fringe, spoke out against a proposed caviar farm in Scotland, and called for Glasgow’s COP26 to be a vegan event. He also belongs to a growing list of celebrities – including Paul McCartney, Natalie Portman, Alicia Silverstone, Thandiwe Newton, Joaquin Phoenix, Woody Harrelson, and Peter Dinklage – who have teamed up with PETA entities to promote kindness to animals.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year, shrinks their carbon footprint, and reduces their risk of suffering from heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.

The group offers a free vegan starter kit, available here. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow the group on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
