Bath, Somerset – Today, ahead of Global Love Day (1 May), a PETA “pig” mascot – joined by other “animal” friends – handed out packets of free La Vie plant-based bacon and vegan starter kits in Bath city centre to encourage locals to show animals some love by opting for delicious vegan meats.

“Just like humans, pigs are affectionate and form close bonds with one another. They show their love by grooming and even snout kissing,” says PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner. “PETA is asking Bathonians to show all intelligent, sensitive animals some love by not eating their flesh on Global Love Day and beyond.”
In the UK meat industry, many piglets’ teeth are clipped or ground down and their tails are cut off without any painkillers. Mother pigs are forcibly impregnated over and over again and confined to crates so small that they can’t even turn around. Each litter of piglets is torn away from them after only a few weeks and transported to fattening pens before eventually being sent to slaughter.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – offers a free vegan starter kit. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow the group on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, or Instagram.
