SOUTHAMPTON LOCAL IS A FINALIST IN ‘GREAT VEGAN BAKE-OFF’ CONTEST
Voting Begins to Help PETA Decide Who It Should Crown as the Best Cruelty-Free Baker
Southampton – A 24-year-old swimming teacher from Southampton is a finalist in PETA’s fifth annual contest to find the best vegan baker in the UK. After much consideration – and serious cravings for delectable baked goods – PETA has selected Laura Wilson, whose show-stopping chocolate cake wowed the judges, as one of the 13 finalists. Now, the public will help PETA decide who should be crowned the 2017 Great Vegan Bake-Off champion.
“We were so inundated with terrific cruelty-free dishes that it was almost impossible to narrow the entries down to just 13 finalists,” says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “Laura is already a winner in our eyes because she’s shown that vegan baking is a piece of (egg- and dairy-free) cake!”
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way” – notes that vegan baking is kind to mother cows, who are forcibly impregnated and then separated from their newborns on dairy farms, and to chickens, who are kept in tiny wire cages on filthy egg farms. Going vegan is also a great way to reduce the risk of suffering from heart disease, strokes, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.
Voting is open to the public from today until 20 October. PETA will choose the winner based on several factors, including vote count, and will announce the results by 27 October. See the full contest details here.
