YUSUF / CAT STEVENS DONATES FAMOUS SONG TO PETA US TO FIGHT ANIMAL HOMELESSNESS

Musician Marks ‘Adopt a Shelter Pet’ Day With New Video

London – Singer-songwriter Yusuf / Cat Stevens has donated his very first hit song – “I Love My Dog”, which recently marked its 50th anniversary – for PETA US to use in a brand-new video in celebration of “Adopt a Shelter Pet” Day on 30 April.

“I love my dog as much as I love you. But you may fade – my dog will always come through”, Yusuf sings. “All the pay I need comes shining through his eyes.” As the music plays, the video shows the bond between a man and his adopted canine best friend.

“A dog will love you unconditionally, whether you’re on top of the world or in the pits”, Yusuf says. “PETA and I encourage everyone to visit their local animal shelter today and open their heart and home to an animal in need.”

Millions of dogs and cats end up in animal shelters every year, and many of them have to be euthanised because there simply aren’t enough homes for them. PETA encourages everyone to adopt and never buy from breeders or pet shops, which contribute to the overpopulation crisis.

Yusuf joins a growing list of musicians, including The Beatles, The Black Keys, Morrissey, Chrissie Hynde, Dolly Parton, and Loretta Lynn, who have donated their music to PETA or its international affiliates – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”.
