Act Today to Help Animals in QMUL Laboratories
Today is Clearing Day at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).
While the university handles calls and enquiries from prospective students and the public, inside QMUL laboratories, experimenters are cutting open live mice and puncturing their intestines to induce sepsis, before killing them.
Let’s make sure QMUL hears what the public thinks about these cruel experiments.
Whether you’ve got two minutes or twenty, your voice can help push the university to end sepsis experiments on animals and embrace state-of-the-art, animal-free science.
Here’s how to get involved.
1. Call QMUL Now
Tell QMUL you’re disgusted that mice are being subjected to severe suffering in sepsis experiments.

Feel free to use this script as a guide:
Start off by saying, “Hello, is this Queen Mary University? I/My son/My daughter/My child was interested in coming to Queen Mary University until I/we heard about the suffering mice are subjected to on campus in cruel sepsis experiments.”
Then, use any of these options:
- “Mice are not lab equipment. Subjecting them to painful, redundant sepsis experiments is disgraceful and archaic.”
- “It’s shameful that researchers at the university are torturing mice in these cruel experiments.”
- “Sepsis experiments on animals are cruel. Professor Colin Bailey must make Queen Mary University a leader in non-animal science by ending them.”
- “I cannot tell you how upset/disappointed I was when I read about what goes on inside the University’s laboratories. Puncturing mice’s colons to induce sepsis? I’ve never heard anything like it. Universities should not be wasting time and money on this cruelty!”
- “I read about the sepsis experiments Queen Mary University researchers conduct on mice, and I’m disgusted that this kind of abuse still goes on in its laboratories.”
You do not need to stick to these statements if you feel more comfortable using your own words – just make sure you remain polite. The protest will be most effective if there is variation and what you are saying is authentic.

- Future students deserve to know that QMUL conducts sepsis experiments on live animals, causing severe suffering and organ failure.
- Animals aren’t laboratory equipment. QMUL must stop cutting open mice and subjecting them to severe suffering in sepsis experiments.
- Mice are suffering in sepsis experiments at QMUL. The university must end these experiments and invest in state-of-the-art, animal-free science.
- Prospective students are watching. I hope QMUL chooses state-of-the-art, humane science and leaves cruel animal experiments in the past.
- Living beings deserve better. QMUL, please choose kinder, state-of-the-art science that leaves animals in peace.
- Sepsis experiments on mice have failed to produce effective targeted treatments for human patients. QMUL must leave these tests behind and invest in innovative, animal-free science.
