Brave Act in the Nick of Time Saves Life and Earns BBC Berkshire DJ ‘Hero to Animals’ Honour

Berkshire – For saving the life of Digby, a distressed puppy who fell into the fast-flowing River Thames at Henley last month, former Radio One and Top of the Pops presenter DJ Mike Read has just received PETA’s Hero to Animals Award. The 27 February rescue was commended by the dog’s guardian Sarah Prior, who tweeted, “A huge thank you to @MikeReadUK of @BBCBerkshire for dragging Digby out of the river just now!”

“By remaining calm and determined, Mike Read saved the life of a terrified animal who may have been within minutes of drowning”, says PETA’s Yvonne Taylor. “Berkshire and the surrounding counties are fortunate to have local heroes, such as Read, who are willing to put their own safety on the line in order to protect all residents, whether on two legs or four.”
