Group Encourages Everyone to Give Animals Some Comfort and Joy by Keeping Them off the Christmas Table

Cambridge – Today, as Christmas fast approaches, a trio of PETA “pigs” wrapped in blankets gave away packs of vegan pigs in blankets and festive recipe booklets to shoppers in Cambridge city centre.

High-resolution photos are available here.

“PETA is encouraging everyone to extend the spirit of goodwill and compassion to all by leaving animals off their plates this Christmas,” says PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner. “Everything from vegan bacon to hearty holiday ‘ham’ roasts can now be found in stores across the UK, so it’s easier than ever to enjoy a festive feast that leaves clever pigs in peace.”

As documented by PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” and which opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview – sensitive, intelligent pigs suffer for their entire lives on UK farms.

The group offers a free vegan starter kitshopping tips, and festive recipes – including smokey maple tofu bacon – to help everyone spare animals a trip to the slaughterhouse.
