‘Meat Is Killing the Planet – Do Something!’ PETA Urges C40

Ahead of the C40 World Mayors Summit, PETA entities sent letters to mayors Horacio Rodríguez Larreta of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and London’s Sadiq Khan, lauding their commitment to “radical climate action” but pointing out one glaring omission in the summit’s proposed agenda: animal agriculture’s role in the climate catastrophe.

There’s a Big, Hamburger-Shaped Hole in the Mayors’ Climate Agenda

The mayors are aware that raising animals for food is a leading cause of environmental destruction, as it requires massive amounts of land, food, energy, and water while emitting huge quantities of greenhouse gases – so why are they skirting the issue?

If city leaders are really serious about combatting the climate catastrophe, they should start by promoting a switch to vegan eating and implementing a plan to end animal farming, as PETA has been urging for years.

Go Vegan or We All Die

According to the United Nations, a global shift towards vegan eating is vital to combat the worst effects of the climate catastrophe. Researchers at the University of Oxford have determined that current agricultural systems make it impossible to meet climate commitments even if all other sources of greenhouse gas emissions were eliminated.

In addition to imperilling the planet, the meat, egg, and dairy industries are abysmally cruel to animals, confining them for their entire lives to filthy sheds before transporting them in all weather conditions to slaughterhouses, where their throats are slit.
