Vegan fashion is on trend. From high-street shops to online boutiques, retailers everywhere are meeting the demand for clothing and accessories that don’t contain fur, leather, wool, silk, or other animal-derived materials.
To show you just how easy shopping cruelty-free chic can be, YouTube star Maddie Bruce has teamed up with PETA to pick out her favourite animal-friendly fashion items of the season. Many people don’t consider the origin of their clothing and accessories – and they’d be saddened to learn that the number of animals who suffer for fashion is astounding. More than 1 billion animals are slaughtered every year for leather, while animals on fur farms are kept in small, filthy cages before being killed in painful ways for their skin. Even compassionate consumers often aren’t aware of the cruelty behind materials such as down and wool: geese’s feathers are often ripped out while they’re still alive, and workers in shearing sheds have been documented viciously beating gentle sheep.
