London – Today, wearing a short green dress made entirely of lettuce leaves, Big Brother winner and model Chantelle Houghton posed for photographs in Covent Garden for the launch of PETA’s recently revamped vegetarian/vegan starter kit. Covent Garden used to host the largest fruit and vegetable market in England, and the ultra-fit Houghton encouraged shoppers and passers-by there to go vegetarian in order to help end animal suffering and improve their own health.

“A vegetarian diet gives me the energy I need to maintain my active lifestyle”, says Houghton, who recently released a workout DVD. “PETA’s vegetarian/vegan starter kits make it so simple to make the change, and it’s great knowing that no animals suffered and died for your meal.”

Vegetarians and vegans are, on average, significantly trimmer than meat-eaters, and they are less likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, strokes and diabetes. PETA’s colourful starter kits – recently updated to include many of the latest meat substitutes and other great animal-free options to hit the market – are packed full of hassle-free recipes and useful tips on making the switch. The magazine also contains anecdotes from many famous vegetarian and vegan celebrities, including Sir Paul McCartney, Leona Lewis, Pamela Anderson and Russell Brand.
