Soft and Cosy Gift Welcomes Royal Baby in Cruelty-Free Style

London – With a second Royal baby due imminently, PETA has dispatched a gift to Prince William and Duchess Catherine: a pair of hand-crocheted baby booties decorated with an adorable bear’s face and crafted from bamboo and cotton yarn. PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear” – chose the gift because plant-based yarns are both softer on a baby’s delicate skin and far kinder to sheep than wool is. Photos of PETA’s gift are available here and here.

“These little wool-free booties will be a warm and kind welcome for the new little prince or princess”, says PETA UK Director Mimi Bekhechi. “We hope PETA’s gift to the newest member of the Royal family will inspire parents around the world to choose cruelty-free clothing, shoes and accessories for their families.”

As PETA recently revealed when they shared a PETA US international exposé of the wool industry, gentle sheep are punched in the face, jabbed with electric clippers, slammed into the floor and stamped on by impatient workers. Some sheep even died from the abuse, such as one whose neck was twisted by a shearer who confessed, “I get angry”.
