London – Today, shoppers who headed to Oxford Street to snatch up jumpers and coats for autumn caught sight of “bloody” and “bruised” PETA supporters bleating outside Urban Outfitters to demand an end to wool sales. The protest was the latest in PETA’s international campaign urging Urban Outfitters Inc brands – including Anthropologie and Free People – to stop selling materials cruelly taken from animals.

Photos from the action are available here.

“Whenever kind shoppers learn that shearing can leave sheep bruised and bloody, they rush to buy vegan materials instead” says PETA Director Elisa Allen. “PETA is calling on all Urban Outfitters brands to live up to their progressive marketing and ditch wool.”

PETA entities have released dozens of videos revealing that during shearing, workers hit, kick, and mutilate sheep for their wool.  Footage from a PETA Asia investigation into Australia’s wool industry – which produces 88% of the world’s supply used in apparel – even shows a shearer cutting a heavily pregnant sheep on her vaginal prolapse and then using her own wool to wipe her blood up off the floor.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow the group on FacebookTwitter, or Instagram.
