Courageous PETA Supporter Calls for Ban on Cruel Bullfighting Events

Stockholm – As a suffering bull slowly bled to death in the arena at the Marbella Bullring, PETA supporter Amina Axelsson, from Linkoping, rushed into the ring to comfort him in his final moments bearing a sign reading, “Stop Bullfighting.” A friend caught the moment on video, as Axelsson filled spectators in on why bullfighting is a cruel and antiquated spectacle that should be abolished. Images and video footage is available here and here.

“No animal should have to face an agonising, needless death for the amusement of a crowd”, says Axelsson. “I’m joining with PETA to urge caring people everywhere to end these bloody, internationally condemned events by never patronising bullfights.”

Prior to each event, electric prods and sharp sticks are often used to torment the bulls, who also may be debilitated by tranquilisers. Human casualties are also common, as noted by PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”. Twelve are known to have died in July and August of this year after being gored by bulls during festivals across Spain.
