London – We couldn’t take our eyes off Vidyut Jammwal in his 2011 debut film Force. And now, we can’t wait to see the Bollywood star as the lead in the upcoming film Commando, which promises to showcase action like never before. But thanks to Vidyut’s respect for his body and his compassion for animals, fans have a chance to see him in a whole new way. Flexing the muscles of his bare and chiselled upper body and wearing low-slung jeans next to the caption “Powered by Veggies! Go Vegetarian”, Vidyut appears in a brand-new ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India. The stunning ad was shot by ace photographer Haider Khan. Vidyut’s hair was done by Yogesh Jadhav, and Pradeep Pandey did his make-up.

Vidyut also sat down for an exclusive interview about how going vegetarian 15 years ago has made a difference in his life. The video can be viewed here and a broadcast-quality version is available here.

“I believe that everybody should be vegetarian because it has a lot of benefits”, says Vidyut, who is living proof of just how muscular and fit a vegetarian can be. “Being a vegetarian makes you agile, keeps you on your toes and doesn’t make you feel lazy. I personally believe that being a vegetarian is the way because I have felt the changes – I have seen myself evolve as a human being, mentally as well as physically.”

Every vegetarian saves the lives of many animals every year. Also, vegetarians are less prone to heart disease, diabetes and cancer. And a UN report concluded that a global shift towards a vegan diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change.

Vidyut joins a growing list of actors, athletes and other celebrities – including Lara Dutta, Shahid Kapoor, Sonu Sood, Pankaj Advani, Anil Kumble, Amrita Rao, R Madhavan, Murali Kartik, Rahul Sharma and Monica Dogra – who have starred in pro-vegetarian ads for PETA India.
