Celebrate Men’s Health Week With These Hearty and Healthy Vegetarian Men!

Here’s a sobering fact: heart disease is the single biggest killer of men. That’s right – more deadly than car crashes and cancer, heart disease is the number-one cause of premature death among men in the UK. Why are we telling you this? Because you can help prevent the vast majority of cardiovascular diseases – and other degenerative illnesses, for that matter – simply by adopting a plant-based diet.

Today marks the start of Men’s Health Week, a week designed to get men to start thinking seriously about their health, well-being and longevity. If you’re thinking seriously about your health, consider this: one of the world’s leading health authorities, the American Heart Association, reports that vegetarians “have a lower risk of obesity, coronary heart disease (which causes heart attack), high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus and some forms of cancer”.       I was surprised to see Michael Clarke Duncan here. I didn’t know that he is a vegetarian, he has a big body built! And Patrik Baboumian is the strongest man of Germany, and he is a plant eater! This is very inspiring….Being a vegetarian can prevent diseases and at the same time, it can help you achieve a nice healthy body.

    Never any doubt in my mind that eating animals is wrong. Many of the greatest men in history were vegetarian, and the words of Plutarch are printed indelibly in my memory

    ” l, for my part, wonder of what sort of feeling,mind or reason that man was possessed who was first to pollute his mouth with gore, and allow his lips to touch the flesh of a murdered being; who spread his table with the mangled form of dead bodies, and claimed as daily food and dainty dishes what but now were beings endowed with movement, with perception and with voice.”

    I’m not entirely convinced a vegetarian diet can eliminate disease or illness as suggested. I am an omnivore and am in very good shape. I do eat a lot of meat and thus don’t necessarily believe that killing another animal to eat is necessarily wrong.
    I do believe that humans are no better than any creature, however. As such I acknowledge that if I am in Washington State and am eaten by a bear, I deserve the fate as I was not strong enough to prevent it. As long as other animals eat each other I will remain an omnivore. I will continue to exist believing that we as humans are animals ourselves. Born from nature and destined to return. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

    Michael Clarke Duncan died of a heart attack at 55 in 2012. He is hardly a poster child for healthy vegetarians.
