60-Year-Old Man from Cardiff Injured During Pamplona’s Running of the Bulls

A 60-year-old man from Cardiff, Wales, is among those injured by distressed bulls after participating in the Running of the Bulls during the San Fermín festival in Pamplona, Spain.

In addition to the torment and slaughter of 60 sensitive animals, this is yet another reason why bull runs and bullfights should be banned immediately.

How Injuries Occur

Animals forced to participate in bull runs have typically had little previous interaction with humans. The sudden appearance of a rowdy mob is distressing, and the panicked bulls often slip on the cobblestone streets or crash into walls.

Runners are often gored as the overwhelmed bulls try to defend themselves.

60 Bulls Are Killed

Many people lured into attending this cruel spectacle don’t realise that the bulls they chase down the streets are slaughtered in the city’s bullring later the same day.

Bullfighters taunt and stab each bull with a lance and several harpoon-like banderillas. When a bull becomes too weak to defend himself, the matador stabs the exhausted animal with a sword.

After the ritualised execution is over, the matador may cut off the bull’s ear or tail to keep as a revolting trophy.

Guaranteed Violence

The festival guarantees violence and bloodshed not only for bulls but also often for locals and tourists. In addition to goring injuries, the festival has seen multiple reports of sexual assault and rape.

How You Can Help

More than 125 Spanish towns and cities have rejected the torture and killing of bulls for entertainment, but in Pamplona, this cruel spectacle continues.

Injury, abuse, and death are the only outcomes of these cruel public spectacles. Please help end bullfights and bull festivals now:
