Law & Orca: Morgan Needs You!

Posted by on October 25, 2013 | Permalink

Morgan has an upcoming court hearing, and she needs your help!

The young orca was found emaciated off the coast of the Netherlands on 23 June 2010. The Dolfinarium Harderwijk, in consultation with the Netherlands Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, captured her and transported her to the dolphinarium under a permit that specifically provided for her recovery, with the purpose of subsequent release.

But in November 2011, the Dutch government allowed Morgan to be shipped off to Loro Parque in Tenerife, Spain, where Morgan is kept in pitifully small tanks and is abused and forced to perform.

Thousands of you have already taken action for Morgan by writing to the Spanish government to demand her release to a coastal sanctuary, where she can be rehabilitated for potential reintroduction to her home and family.

Now we’re asking for your help again!

Sad Morgan

Morgan has a court hearing (an appeal) at the High Court in The Hague, Netherlands, on Tuesday, 3 December 2013, at 10:45 am.

It will be a chance for lawyers and expert witnesses from the Free Morgan Foundation to speak up for Morgan, with lawyers from both sides being given five minutes to present their cases before the judges ask them questions.

Please show your support for Morgan by writing to Sharon Dijksma, the Dutch Minister for Agriculture. Call for Morgan’s transfer to a sanctuary and for Dijksma to prevent any other orca from suffering as Morgan has suffered ever again.

This time, we’re asking for personalised letters calling for Morgan’s release. You can find detailed information about the case at http://www.freemorgan.org and http://petauk.org/morgan.

You can also help by keeping the pressure up on Dolfinarium Harderwijk, Loro Parque and SeaWorld by contacting the parks, spreading the word by leaving comments on online review sites and taking action for other orcas at SeaWorldOfHurt.com.
