Over 20,000 PETA Supporters Called For McPlant – Now, It’s Finally Here

Over 20,000 PETA supporters urged McDonald’s to release a vegan burger in the UK, and our collective call has been answered: meet the McPlant.

The vegan burger is made up of a Beyond Meat patty, tomato, lettuce, pickles, onion, vegan special sauce, ketchup, mustard, and a slice of vegan cheese – all cushioned in a sesame-seed bun. Do you want fries with that? No problem, those are certified vegan too. Have we mentioned that we’re lovin’ it?

By introducing a meaty vegan option, McDonald’s is following in the footsteps of Burger King and KFC to meet growing demand. Vegan eating is on the rise in the UK, as more and more people are choosing plant-based foods to protect animals and the environment. And the best part is that this new offering from McDonald’s will introduce a new audience to vegan foods.

Why Are More People Than Ever Choosing Vegan?

  • For animals: Every single animal is a sensitive individual with his or her own thoughts, feelings, and personality. Yet to produce beef for burgers, workers in British abattoirs shoot cows in the head with a captive-bolt gun, hang them up by one leg, and cut their throats, often while they’re still conscious.
  • For the planet: The leading cause of global deforestation and one of the main reasons for devastating forest fires around the globe is the use of animals for food. More land is required to feed a meat-eater than a vegan, and gases and waste produced by animals cause serious pollution.
  • For their health: Vegans are less prone to suffering from heart disease, diabetes, strokes, obesity, and cancer than meat-eaters are.

What You Can Do

There’s no need for us to eat the flesh of other animals. There are so many delicious plant-based options available that going vegan is now easier than ever.
