7 Ways to Have a Dazzling Vegan Hogmanay 2019

Here’s how to light up your Hogmanay celebrations while keeping them animal-friendly:

  1. Put on your glad rags.

While you’re out shopping for some feel-good clothes for Hogmanay, make sure that you’re helping animals feel good, too, by treating yourself to a fabulous outfit that’s free of animal-derived materials. Check out our list of “PETA-Approved Vegan” clothing and accessories to take your look to the next level!

  2. Serve vegan canapés.

Everyone knows a party is only as good as its snacks – and luckily, there are plenty of delicious vegan options out there to kick-start the celebrations. Why not make a vegan cheeseboard, serve some award-winning goodies, or delight your friends and family with faux gras?

  3. Choose reggae, not fireworks.

A recent study showed that dogs are big fans of reggae music and feel especially comforted by it in stressful situations. Fireworks displays can be terrifying for animals, so try swapping loud explosions for a bit of Bob Marley at midnight this year. We promise it’ll be a treat for animal companions and their guardians alike.

  4. Toast to 2020.

The majority of people are unaware that although wine is made from grapes, some varieties are filtered using animal-derived “fining agents” such as blood and bone marrow, chitin (from crustaceans), egg albumen (from egg whites), fish oil, and gelatine. Luckily, if you’re looking for a spirited way to ring in the New Year, most supermarkets offer a wonderful selection of vegan wine and prosecco, and you’ll likely find a great offering at your local offie as well. For those opting for a non-alcoholic toast, sparkling apple juice is a wonderful vegan option – just be sure to check the ingredients.

  5. Get glammed up – the cruelty-free way.

The PETA US Beauty Without Bunnies database lists the many companies that don’t conduct horrifying tests on animals, meaning you can get Hogmanay-ready while staying cruelty-free. Check the list before picking up some party glitter to achieve a dazzling make-up look.

  6. Make the countdown count.

This year, rather than making a resolution that you know you’re going to break (like that age-old classic, “Starting tomorrow, I’m going to become one of those people with a gym membership”), make your resolution about animal rights. Sign up to receive PETA UK E-News to keep on top of all our latest action alerts and demos – we’ll make it easy for you to follow through and get active for animals in 2020.

  7. Get brunchin’.

More often than not, Hogmanay means a late night. Check out these tasty vegan breakfast recipes to keep the party stragglers happy and impressed by all the animal-friendly options. Who knows – if you whip up the breakfast of New Year’s Day champions, they might even decide to take our 30-day vegan pledge this January.
